I first met Susan through the MOMS Club of the Birmingham Area. She was immediately memorable to me as a brilliant conversationalist, whose ideas I loved hearing and with whom I felt an immediate kinship. In fact, it was one of those experiences where you just really, really, really hope you'll be great friends for a long time. On top of that, we have a lot in (sorta) common - like our husbands are in ministry, they're from California (as is my husband and my maternal family), we had both recently moved and had two children. Well, she was gorgeously pregnant with her third, and radiant as could be. Anyways, I think she's fantastic (clearly)!
So, when she initially asked me about a family session, I was thrilled! I loved what her description of what she wanted for their family photo session. She wanted to have a carefree and fun time with her family, with her now three boys being able to play with sticks, climb trees and play in the dirt. (I'm pretty sure that's close to verbatim.) I love capturing real emotions and the beauty and bliss of everyday life amidst the chaos - the moments we as a family will cherish even with the crazy times (...and broken bones or bloody noses or meltdowns that MAY occur, but fortunately not for us that morning)! I was also excited to try the location she suggested: The Aldridge Gardens in Hoover.
I'd heard about these gardens, because they were owned by passionate gardeners and nurserymen (I LOVE flowers!), who actually found and discovered the double-blossoming "Snowflake" or "Oakleaf Hydrangea" (and seriously, who doesn't love a flourishing hydrangea?!) and owned this huge plot of land and gardens, and later donated this land to the city of Hoover so that many others could also enjoy it. I had never been, but I knew it would be a great place for us to allow the boys to have fun while also capturing the depth of love and joy that they share as a family, amidst the chaos and reality of life.
So, I am thrilled to share with you these images from their session, giving you a glimpse of the fun we had together. I went from feeling fairly chilly that morning and wearing a sweater due to the cloud cover to getting sweaty with the boys as we ran around in the hot sun (they to play, and I to get "the shot" ;) ... It was such a joy to photograph this darling family, and to celebrate the love, connection, and affection they share. It was also really fun to pull mom + dad aside and give them the spotlight for once. When we spent a brief moment focusing on them together, they were able to jump into romance so quickly, it was beautiful and oh so darling. I almost felt like I gave them a really concentrated date together ;) You'll see how their love radiates and shines!
I hope you enjoy glimpsing a view of the bliss amongst the wild chaos of parenting three absolutely delightful, bright, and active boys. It's not easy to raise three boys, I think it's fair to assume, but my goodness, what a blessing. It is such a gift to celebrate these fleeting days and blissful moments.
Enjoy the highlights of this wonderful family photo session at the delightful, springing into blossom gardens of Hoover, Alabama. :)
This is a beautiful family, yes. But they're also so much fun and embracing the adventure of life with little ones with happiness. So, rather than only share the really, really pretty ones with you, I wanted to share some of the really, really fun other ones, too!
We had SO much fun together, and we would make quick transitions from more expected happy shots to giggles and playtime. Here's one of those goofy, delightful moments where the entire family embraced their silly side in the drop a hat and yet managed to not drop any kids from the tree! ;) Now that's a feat.
